The VTC delegation visited Nanning, Guangxi from 30 October to 1November, 2024, to hold a work meeting with senior officials from the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Guangxi Education Department) and representatives of Nanning Vocational Technical University (NUVT) to discuss collaboration under the “Guangxi - Hong Kong Vocational Education Development Center”. The meeting reviewed the achievements in vocational education cooperation over the past year and explored future collaboration directions.
During the meeting, representatives from the three parties engaged in in-depth discussions on teacher training, academic education, and cultural exchange, yielding fruitful results. Notably, consensus was reached on the cooperation related to the "Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS)", aiming to provide broader employment channels for skilled talent from Guangxi and promote economic and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Guangxi.
As the first cooperative institution between Guangxi and Hong Kong, the Guangxi - Hong Kong Vocational Education Development Center has enrolled approximately 200 students in programmes such as Art Design, Hotel Management and Digital Operations, and International Economics and Trade since its establishment in September 2023. Over the past nine years, the Center has successfully conducted 13 training sessions for mid-level and senior vocational teachers and organised eight editions of the China - ASEAN Culinary Skill Competition for Students from Vocational Colleges, achieving remarkable results. This year, students and teachers from the Chinese Culinary Institute and International Culinary Institute also participated in the Competition, earning several accolades, including four individual awards, a team award, and recognition for outstanding instructors.
The visit in Guangxi lay a solid foundation for further cooperation in vocational education between Hong Kong and Guangxi, opening up new directions for collaboration. Guangxi serves as a significant gateway between the Mainland and ASEAN countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. The VTC will continue to optimise its exchanges and cooperation with Guangxi, actively enhancing Hong Kong's role as a hub for vocational education.
