Friday 26 October 2018 was a lively day at IVE(HW), filled with lots of energetic students. They tried traditional Japanese Kendo (martial art), played with the Kendama folk toy and even donned the elegant and eye-catching Yukata (summer clothing) for our Japan Day.

As a part of the International Festival, the event was brought by the concerted efforts of IDO, BA Discipline and IVE(HW) campus, together with the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong and support from the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Hong Kong Office. After a welcome from DED(D) and the Consulate’s Director of Public Relations & Cultural Affairs Division, participants were treated with performances by the Hong Kong Kendo Association and Hong Kong Freestyle Kendama Association and were also able to have a try on another traditional game called Daruma Otoshi, as well as origami and Japanese language.

Two students from HD in International Business Management with Languages, Bonnie and Adonis, were very excited to wear the Yukata as event emcees and took part in a Yukata training workshop conducted by the Consulate-General of Japan ahead of the event. Taking part in Japan Day even inspired Bonnie to join the VTC International Student Ambassador Scheme!
