歐洲聯盟駐香港及澳門辦事處與職業訓練局攜手舉辦歐洲聯盟2020年賀卡設計比賽

In 2020, the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao (EUO) and the VTC jointly organised the "European Union Greeting Card Contest 2020", which ended in October.

Promoting Cultural Diversity
Themed "East meets West", the contest consisted of two categories, the Christmas Card Design Category and Lunar New Year Card Design Category. They aimed to promote understanding of the rich and diverse cultural traditions surrounding Christmas in various European Union countries, and to celebrate Hong Kong's Lunar New Year traditions.

This first-ever VTC-wide contest also created an artistic platform to foster the blend of Chinese and Western cultures through the innovative artworks of our young talents.  Entries were submitted during the summer break, with an overwhelming response of over 160 entries from nearly 120 VTC full-time students.  The high calibre entries in both printable and animated card formats demonstrated the excellence of vocational and professional education in equipping our students with digital competencies and design skills.

The Award Ceremony for the Contest was subsequently held on 29 October 2020 at the EU Office to recognise the winners' design talents and fabulous works. Mr Thomas GNOCCHI, Head of EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao, accompanied by Mrs Carrie YAU, VTC Executive Director, officiated the ceremony.  Honourable guests included Dr Michael WANG, VTC Deputy Executive Director, the Principals of the respective winners, as well as representatives of the EUO.

Design talents shine in the contest
Peter TSE, a Year 4 student of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design from THEi (Chai Wan), was the Overall Winner of the Christmas Card Design.  Peter thanked his art teacher for inspiring him to produce good designs in his profession. He also expressed his gratitude to his parents for supporting him to pursue his dream of being a professional designer.

Zena CHUNG, a graduate of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Environmental Engineering and Management from THEi (Tsing Yi), was the Overall Winner of the Lunar New Year Card Design. As a student from the science faculty, she felt grateful and lucky of gaining recognition and encouragement from the VTC and the EUO. "We should never underestimate ourselves, and it is never too late to learn," said Zena, who started to learn using design software not long ago and tried her best to practice with her interest in handicrafts design.

The overall winners' designs will become the official greeting cards of the EUO for the holiday seasons and will be distributed across the world, and appear on the social media platforms of the EUO. Additionally, all winning entries will be exhibited in the Creative Europe Workshop scheduled for next year. Let's stay tuned to see our students' great works at the EUO's platforms in the upcoming holiday seasons.
