Webinar on “Development of Professional and Vocational University (PVU) in Japan”

Thriving in today’s rapidly changing environment and labour market requirements, professionals with advanced practical skills and rich creativity are in great demand across the globe. To enhance VTC staff’s understanding of Japan’s response to these trends and the emerging skills needed in workplaces, a webinar on “Development of Professional and Vocational University (PVU) in Japan” was organised by the International Development Office (IDO) on 30 November 2021 with over 80 staff participants.

We had the honour to have Mr TAKASE Yoshitaka, Consul in the Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Division of the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong as our guest speaker, sharing with us Japan’s new system of Professional and Vocational University (PVU) and Professional and Vocational Junior College (PVJC) enforced in April 2019.  These new institutions with clear goals provide high-quality vocational education in close cooperation with industry, including long-term firm-based training, curricula on the latest trends in industries, etc.  Other core characteristics of this system include practical skills training, a good balance between theory and practice, and creativity cultivation to match industries’ needs.
