Am I allowed to work during my study period in Hong Kong?

Under the Immigration Regulations, a person permitted to land in Hong Kong as a student shall not take part in any employment, whether paid or unpaid.

However, students studying full-time locally-accredited programmes at undergraduate level (including THEi) whose study period is not less than one academic year may take up study/curriculum-related internships arranged or endorsed by the Institution, subject to the current Hong Kong Immigration Department’s relevant conditions

Non-local students enrolled in full-time locally-accredited Higher Diploma local programmes (including IVE, HKDI, HKIIT and ICI) with a study period of not less than two academic years may also apply to take up mandatory, study/curriculum-related internships arranged or endorsed by the institution, provided that the current Hong Kong Immigration Department’s relevant conditions are met.
