In order to promote VPET cooperation and enhance student exchange in the Greater Bay Area, VTC and Shenzhen Pengcheng Technician College have collaboratively launched an exchange student programme with the aim of broadening the horizons of students from both regions while enhancing their professional skills.
Two students from Shenzhen Pengcheng Technician College began participating in a six-week exchange programme on 11 November 2024. They have joined courses and practical training with local students from Hong Kong at VTC’s Hotel and Tourism Institute, Chinese Culinary Institute, and International Culinary Institute. Through specialised courses and diverse learning activities, they gained knowledge and skills in various Chinese and Western culinary theories and techniques.
To apply theory into practice, they were arranged to participate in the preparation activities for a training restaurant dinner. This allowed them to experience a series of preparation tasks and dish-serving processes in a real environment. Additionally, they also learned service skills related to different aspects of hospitality operations, which included operating hotel room booking systems as well as using luggage handling and ticketing systems.
Apart from their professional studies, students also joined various social activities during their leisure time which enabled them to establish friendships with students from Hong Kong. This exchange and learning experience not only provided valuable opportunities for the students but also enriched their learning journey. The students were able to enhance their cooking skills and broaden their knowledge in different areas, which can contribute to future career development.
