Programme Aims

The programme provides all-round training on building environment design that emphasises not only architectural technologies, legal requirements and sustainable development knowledge, but the latest Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology to create a better built environment so that the graduates can take up various positions in architectural technology related position to create comfort and pleasure built environment, and be also well-equipped for further development to professional or management levels.

The programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed in interior design firms, architectural firms, property developers, building contractors, government department, etc. to take up various supervisory, managerial and technical positions, such as assistant interior designer, project manager / coordinator, assistant Building Information Modelling (BIM) manager / coordinator, architectural technician and technical officer.

Articulation
Graduates may articulate to the degree programmes offered by Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi):
  1. Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design; and
  2. Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture.

Graduates may apply for admission to relevant degree programmes offered by local and overseas universities, including:
  1. BSc(Hons) Architectural Technology and Design#, the University of the West of England, UK (full-time / part-time top-up degree programme operated by the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) locally at VTC) [Not applicable to Mainland students]
  2. Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours)#, the RMIT University, Australia (part-time top-up programmes operated by the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) locally at VTC) [Not applicable to Mainland students]
  3. Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Architecture, the Chu Hai College of Higher Education
  4. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
     
It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which this course may lead. Please refer to the corresponding programme page in the website of SHAPE for the registered course no.
Professional Recognition

The programme is widely accepted by the construction industry. It is also accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) and the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) as a required academic qualification for their Associate Membership.
 
The programme is a CIC-accredited BIM Coordinator (CCBC) Course.
