Programme Aims

To cope with rapid development of digital entertainment industry in Hong Kong and Asia, this programme aims to equip students with practical knowledge and skill to become professionals for design and development of computer game, computer animation, and visual effects. This is also a unique programme in which students will be able to access cutting-edge computer systems and software to realize their creative ideas for the production of digital entertainment products.
 
The computer game stream is designed with modules to develop the competency of graduates in applying computer graphics programming techniques in developing interactive game and training simulation applications.
 
The computer animation stream is designed with modules to enable graduates to become professional computer animators to serve the growing market of computer games, animated feature films, television and visual effects productions.
 
The animation Greater Bay Area (GBA) practice stream in cooperation with Shenzhen Polytechnic allows students to master the necessary knowledge to understand the work environment, latest industry development and recruitment process in the Mainland such as the employment market, work culture and development opportunities.
 
This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Programme Stream

Students may choose one of the following streams so as to enhance professional knowledge and skills in specific areas:

  • Higher Diploma in Games and Animation (Games)
  • Higher Diploma in Games and Animation (Animation)
  • Higher Diploma in Games and Animation (Animation Greater Bay Area Practice)

The 1st semester is a common semester. Students will progress to the stream in the 2nd semester (provisional), subject to their choice, academic performance and availability of places in specific streams.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed as computer animator, 3D modeler, visual effects designer, game artist, game designer, game programmer, mobile game developer.

Articulation

Application for mapping for articulation pathways to local and overseas universities will be sought.

Note

1. Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
2. The programme is newly offered in AY2025/26. The accreditation of the programme will be conducted in 2025.
3. Certain modules within the curriculum are delivered in Chinese. A higher level of Chinese proficiency is required.
